Intro

Intro

"Crafting Code" is a project that explores the use of agency and generative aspects of coding as a craft-making tool, to potentially challenge ‘traditional’ craft process and social practices associated with textile making in India.

How can craft-makers use code as a tool for craft-making? How may using code increase different potentialities within the craft-making process? An intermingling of our hand and the machine, a fragment of our current techno-culture.

Pleasure as a contrast between people’s emotions in regard to their own personal satisfaction. Pleasure as a medium to showcase different accounts of joy.

Through “Pleasure” zine, we discover and explore an individual’s personal fantasies and desires. We dive deeper than one narrative, to have a look at what’s underneath.  Pleasure can take many forms.

About

About

Un-deniably, computers have become a more immediate part of our practice as designers, artists or craft makers. We have been knitting code, weaving syntax, & quilting pixels together. “Crafting Code” is an interactive textile catalog that showcases this relationship between craft making and programming.

Throughout my research, I exercised integrating code with designing textiles; conducting auto-ethnographic experiments. Through this methodology, I found that the generative qualities of code actually extended and transformed my own process of textile design. Since code builds incrementally, it allowed me to witness different possibilities and compositions in real-time. Having the ability to tweak and instantly see changes through the output facilitated a space for me to experiment and play. I wanted these experiments to possibly act as a catalyst to encourage exploration within the viewer’s own creative practice. Hopefully further implementing aspects of risk and uncertainty within their process, perhaps by the merge of disciplines that might not explicitly seem compatible.
